TL;DR Factor Bikes has finalized an agreement to supply Team Bahrain Victorious, re-establishing the boutique brand at cycling’s highest level following a messy commercial fallout with Israel-Premier Tech.

Factor Bikes is officially back at the highest tier of international road racing. After a season marked by logistical headaches and political pushback surrounding its former association with Israel-Premier Tech, the British-engineered, Taiwan-manufactured frame builder has locked in a multi-year equipment supply deal with Bahrain Victorious.

The agreement ends Bahrain Victorious’ long-running relationship with Taiwanese giant Merida, which had supplied the squad since its founding in 2017. For Factor, the pivot returns its bikes directly to the UCI WorldTour calendar, providing the validation testing ground its engineering team requires to compete against commercial titans like Trek and Specialized.

A Clean Break and a Tier-One Fleet

Bahrain Victorious will race the 2027 season aboard Factor’s flagship Ostro VAM aero-road frame and the Hanzo time-trial platform, paired with cockpit components and wheelsets from Factor’s in-house component subsidiary, Black Inc.

The move resolves a strategic vulnerability for Factor. The brand’s prior partnership with Israel-Premier Tech (IPT) became commercially complicated over the past two seasons as the team faced intense protests, route disruptions, and heightened security requirements across European stages. Factor chief executive Rob Gitelis had quietly scouted alternative tier-one partners to preserve the brand’s visibility without the compounding brand friction.

Securing a front-row seat on the WorldTour requires navigating complex biz it investments, where top-flight bicycle makers contribute millions in hardware, engineering resources, and direct cash to underwrite team operational budgets.

Aerodynamic Margins in the Peloton

From an engineering perspective, the transition gives Bahrain Victorious access to Factor’s rapid-iteration prototyping model. Unlike traditional mass-market frame suppliers that operate on rigid three-year tooling schedules, Factor owns its dedicated manufacturing facility in Taichung. This vertical integration allows the company to tweak carbon composite layups and test revised aerodynamic profiles within weeks rather than quarters.

Factor relies heavily on carbon formulations that blend high-modulus pitch fibers with localized reinforcement, developed in part to comply with the strict frame-thickness regulations monitored by the Union Cycliste Internationale. Integrating these materials with components from future tech labs focused on structural composites gives riders an edge in torsional stiffness over rough surfaces without deadening ride feel.

Bahrain Victorious management singled out Factor’s wind-tunnel velocity metrics and wheel-tire integration as central motives for walking away from Merida. With grand tour margins increasingly decided by seconds across individual time trials and high-speed valley transitions, the team wanted a partner willing to build custom front-end profiles around specific rider coordinates.

The partnership highlights the precarious balancing act of performance gear sponsorship. Elite cycling is notoriously brutal on commercial partners: bike brands provide hardware to teams, yet they frequently find their brand equity exposed to external geopolitical controversies they cannot control.

While Team Bahrain Victorious carries its own share of scrutiny regarding state-backed sports financing, it presents Factor with an established, stable WorldTour infrastructure. For Factor, the imperative was simple: top-tier composite research requires race data from 21-stage Grand Tours, not secondary ProTeam invitations. By securing a guaranteed start line in cycling’s premier calendar, Factor secures the laboratory it needs to push its high-end road engineering forward.
